Cooraclare 0-12
The Banner GAA Club, Ennis 0-11
On Saturday afternoon our Intermediate Footballers boughed out of the championship by the minimal margin to Cooraclare in a tense encounter that ebbed and flowed for the hour. The Ennis lads played with the breeze in the first half and but had only managed to accrue a 1 point lead by half time where the scoreline was 4 points to 3 in favour of the Banner. Both sides missed chances in the first half, among the misses was a missed penalty by Cooraclare. In the second half the Banner side actually dominated the possession stakes playing against the breeze but Cooraclare's ability to kick 2-pointers was telling, managing to raise 3 orange flags in the second half when scores were hard to come by. There some chances to work an equaliser in the closing 7 minutes but when Barry Kelly blew the final whistle there was the minimum between the teams.
Despite the disappoint of losing by a point in the semi, there has been significant progress made by the group this year. This was the first time that the young Banner side had advanced to this stage of the intermediate competition. The average age of the side is very young and the experience although painful should benefit them in the long run. Congratulations to Cooraclare on their win. They will now face Corofin in the final after Corofin's win over Clondegad in the other semi final .
The club would like to thank all the players on the panel for their huge commitment shown over the year. We are all very proud of their efforts and how the team improved and developed. The club would like thank Tom Meehan and his entire management team and team coach John O'Sullivan for their management and time. Thanks also to selector Thomas Meenaghan and Darren O'Neill our team physio and Martin Davis our S&C work.
Finally a huge thanks to the large Banner band of Banner Ennis supporters who made their way to Milltown to cheer on the lads on Saturday. The team were very grateful for everyone that made the journey. To all supporters young and old, thank you all and we know you are all proud of the teams efforts. Please keep up the support now for the other Banner teams remaining in championship action, our Junior A hurlers in their semi final and the Banner ladies in their upcoming county final.
